A driver killed in a fire in a lake on Florida’s Lakeland has been identified as a 20-year-old Florida man who had lived in Lakeland, officials said.
The Lakeland Fire Department said Tuesday that the 20-foot-long, 10-ton boat that caught fire about 3:45 p.m.
Monday was a rental that belonged to an individual from St. Augustine, Fla.
The boat, which was rented by the same man, was not carrying passengers.
Lakeland Fire Chief John Nadel said the 20 year-old driver of the boat was pronounced dead at the scene.
He declined to say whether the driver had been drinking or if he was on drugs.
Officials said the driver of that boat, who was not named, was identified through a family member.
The death is the fourth in Florida this year.
In March, a 20 year old man was killed in Lakewood after he crashed his rental boat while fleeing the scene of a home invasion.
The next day, a woman was found dead on a boat in St. Petersburg.
